History
The Gazelle Trust was formed after Eleanor Turnbull visited rural south India in July 2005 to volunteer for a local charity and to teach in a rural school. Whilst volunteering she came across a small orphanage about 10 km from Mammalapuram in Tamil Nadu. The children who rushed out into the road to see her cycle past were so excited and friendly that she returned to visit later that day. The children were being cared for by a local Christian Reverend, Isacc Dhas and he invited her to share a meal with his "family" of 30 orphaned children. The generosity and kindness shown by this incredibly impoverished family stayed with her long after she returned home to England and she realised that it would take very little money to help these children in a meaningful and lasting way. In January 2006 she applied for charitable status and started financially supporting Shiloh Orphanage. After the massive success of our fundraising events the trustees agreed to start supporting the educational needs of children in a community school in Tanzania (Chaangaja School) where Gareth Jones was currently teaching.
