Bridge and Lunch Day |
Sponsored 100-Mile Bike Ride |
On the 29th April 2006 eight people (Eleanor, Robert and Roger Turnbull, Emily Adams, Shirley and Chris Hume, Will
Skinner and Charlie Clayton) completed a 100-mile cycle ride from Bristol to Reading in exactly 12 hours, raising
approximately £2155 in sponsorship money.
Eleanor, one of the trustees, took part in the bike ride and made the following report "It was an excruciatingly painful day but definitely a memorable achievement! Very luckily for us it was a beautiful day and Mum (Susie Turnbull - Trustee) was a saviour and met us every 35 miles to feed us flapjacks, chocolate and ham rolls! The highest point of the cycle ride came when we saw the signpost saying 22 miles to Reading, unfortunately the long hard slog after that was mostly in silence as everyone pushed against their bodies' natural instincts and kept pedalling! The sight of the Oracle in Reading Town Centre has never before given me so much joy as we arrived at 7.30 pm and had a celebratory drink in the nearest pub!
An enormous thank you to everyone who sponsored and supported us, I don't think all the pain would have been worth it without the knowledge that I had raised a lovely amount of money for The Gazelle Trust."
Tennis Tournament |
A tennis tournament, attended by 40 people, was held on the 22nd June 2006. This "America Doubles" style-tournament
started on 5 separate courts and culminated in the hotly contested final on East Hendred's court; winners were Gill Richards and Shirley
Brasher.
Numerous people who were unable to participate in the tennis joined the players for a scrumptious lunch in the sun; everyone generously participated in the raffle and supported our small gift stall, enabling the event to raise £924.
